Documents to Sell a Used Car | Bill My Car

Tips for a clean handover

Stop assembling this by hand

Three of the items above (invoice, sale letter, Form 29 and Form 30) all use the same buyer and vehicle details. Type them once and generate the whole set, already filled, instead of rewriting the same names and numbers on every document.

Frequently asked questions

What documents do I need to sell my car?

At minimum: the RC, valid insurance, a valid PUC certificate, Form 29 and Form 30, a sale invoice, and ID and address proof of both buyer and seller. A NOC is needed if there was a loan or an interstate move.

Do I need a NOC to sell my car?

You need a NOC from the financier if there was a loan on the car, and from the RTO if the vehicle is moving to another state. For a same-state sale on a loan-free car, a NOC is generally not required.

Is insurance transfer necessary when selling?

Yes. The insurance should be transferred to the buyer so cover continues correctly. It is also one of the documents the RTO expects during the ownership transfer.
