Bill My Car vs Generic Billing Software: What Car Dealers Actually Need

Bill My Car vs Generic Apps | Bill My Car

Generic billing apps are good tools for the problems they are designed to solve. A used-car dealership is not that problem. The GST margin scheme, mandatory RTO forms, and vehicle-specific data make used-car dealing a distinct category.

Three core gaps in generic billing tools

  1. GST on margin, not full price. Rule 32(5) CGST Rules requires GST on the sale-minus-purchase margin only. No generic app calculates this automatically.
  2. RTO forms are mandatory. Form 29, 30, 28, 34, 35, 29C are required for every transfer. Generic apps produce none of them.
  3. Vehicle identifiers matter legally. Chassis and engine numbers must appear identically across 5-7 documents. A generic "item description" field cannot enforce this.

The honest summary

For restaurants, clothing stores, service providers, or most Indian businesses, Tally, Zoho, Vyapar, or myBillBook are excellent choices.

For a used-car dealer, using a generic tool means doing half the billing work in the app and the other half in Word, Excel, or by hand. Bill My Car is built for the other half.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Tally for a used-car dealership?

Tally Prime handles GST accounting well but does not support the used-vehicle margin scheme automatically. You can enter the margin as a manual ledger adjustment, but there is no built-in Rule 32(5) calculation. More importantly, Tally does not generate RTO forms (Form 29, 30, 28, 34, 35), sale letters, or vehicle-specific delivery notes. You would still need to maintain those documents separately.

Can I use Zoho Invoice for car dealer billing?

Zoho Invoice supports GST invoicing in India but treats all GST as a standard rate on the full invoice value. The used-vehicle margin scheme (GST on margin only, not full price) is not a built-in feature. Zoho also does not generate any RTO transfer forms or sale letters. For a used-car dealer, Zoho would handle only a portion of the required documentation.

Is Vyapar good for used-car dealers?

Vyapar is well-suited for general retail and service businesses and is popular for its simplicity. However, it does not support the GST margin scheme for used vehicles, does not generate RTO forms, and does not have fields for chassis number, engine number, or registration number. A used-car dealer would need a separate system for RTO documents and sale letters.

What makes Bill My Car different from general billing software?

Bill My Car is built exclusively for car dealerships: used, pre-owned and new. It automatically calculates GST on the margin (not the full price), generates all RTO ownership-transfer forms pre-filled from the invoice, produces vehicle-specific sale letters with chassis and engine numbers, and saves documents to the dealer's Google Drive. No generic billing app does all of this.
